This Is The Time

I wrote a new song called "This Is The Time" about a month ago.  Like all my songs, the music came first.  The song was inspired by conversations I had with a friend of mine.  We were talking about how one of our biggest fears is the fear of being forgotten.  After we're gone, life will keep on going.  Life keeps going with or without us.  What matters, it's what we were able to do with our time as living creatures.  This song was written to me from me.  At the time I was playing around with this idea, I was really down, almost constantly in a depressive state.  This song was about me telling myself to get up and start living.  As always, you might listen to the song on my music player here on Jesseacosta.com.  And for the first time, you may download the song here. This is the time to begin to find out
This is the time you don't need to cry
Falling away I'm falling away
This is the time to take it with you
This is the time don't wait for a sign
This is the time to begin to fall down
Way down, way down, way down

Sometimes, sometimes it's you
Sometimes, sometimes it's you

This is the time to be forgotten
This is the time don't stand up on sand
Fading away, I'm fading away
This is the time please don't fall to pieces
This is the time don't ask for the time
This is the time to begin to rise up
Way high, way high, way high

Sometimes, sometimes it's you
Sometimes, sometimes it's you

Sometimes, sometimes it's you
Sometimes, sometimes it's you
I see you now, you're young
I see you now, you're gone

Girl

New song, started on Wednesday, continued on Friday, and finished today (Saturday).  This is one of my favorites.  Having problems with my music player, but you can listen to the song here.

Girl
We haven't said "I love you" anymore
We've gone our separate ways and I'm alone
And you and me
We're not the same that we once used to be
My faithful girl

She said boy
There's nothing you can give me anymore
The last time on the street I said it all
And me and you
We're not the same and now I think we're through
My only boy

Please girl
So many things I know I've done so wrong
But loving you has never been enough
And me and she
Please know we've only kissed a time or three
I'm sorry girl

Now
You're leaving and you haven't said good bye
I wish you all the best in your new life
And you and he
I hope that you are really meant to be
His only girl

Sad Guitar

It's been 4 months since I've written any songs.  For the last 3 weeks I've been trying to come up with something in the studio but nothing really good came out.  Then last week I was playing around with some effects on the guitar and came up with a two chord progression in 6/8 (music talk).  That was enough to trigger my creative juices and soon I had all the music for my next song.  One problem though: I didn't have any lyrics.  However, while recording the music I turned the mic on and started rambling incoherent lyrics: English and Spanish words and made up words that made no sense but was enough for me to get an idea for a melody.  When it was time to write actual lyrics, I followed that melody made out of random words and sounds.

I've always been fascinated by space and it's infinity and by any life forms that we don't know about yet.  So I somewhat wanted to write about that.  There's a line in the song Panic by The Smiths that says: "hang the blessed DJ, because the music that they constantly play, it says nothing to me about my life."  That's one of my favorite lines because music should be able to speak to you; it should be abstract.  When I listen to music I want to relate to the music, to the words.   So I hope this song speaks to you about your life.  Only I know what this songs speaks to me about. But I'm curious to see what this songs means to you.   Hope you enjoy the song.

And like a shooting star in the sky
I fly out of this atmosphere
I'm on my way to Mars

And I don't

Carry anything I don't need
My body has stayed behind
I just need my soul; my sad guitar

Flying out I'm flying out
Floating high yeah
I see them now
So green so childlike
Rest for a while

P.S.  I have a hard time singing.  Singing is not a talent I have, and I seem to write the hardest melodies to sing...go figure.

It's Been Some Time

Well, it's been some time since I've written on here.  I've been doing music and photography--seems like more photography than music.  What's going on with me?  I'm not sure.  This year has not been particularly good to me.  I wonder it this is just one of those times when things are out of wack or it's just life happening.  All in all, I feel oppressed, constrained by something.  Things I never thought about, all of the sudden are surfacing and getting my attention.  I really hope this is just temporary.

Photography is going well, one of my New Year's resolution was to concentrate more on photography, and I've been able to do that to a certain point.  I still want to dive deeper into the world of photography.  On the other hand, music has been slow, there are things I want to say through my music, but nothing's flowing right now.  However, for a period of 3 months, I wrote some good songs that I'm very proud of (you can hear them on this website).  I still struggle with my voice, but I think it's gotten better since the first song I recorded.

What else is going on?  Oh yeah, I'm trying to lose some weight.  I started last week, but my goal is to be done by August 1st.  We shall see.

That's it for now.  Send me a note, I'd like to hear from you. Use the contact link above on this page.

Power Corrupts

Individuals longing for some level of power, usually get it at any cost. However, most of these individuals use power for their own gain.  This will never change because these individuals are supported by other individuals that seek personal gain also.  This is completely backwards; power should be given to those humble souls who choose to help others even when they themselves need help.  People seem to have forgotten the meaning of integrity, honesty, and humility.

Here We Are

Well, this is my first song written in 2010 and it's a happy one--for a change.  The words are below, and the message is pretty self-explanatory. As you all know, all my songs are written from personal experiences and this song was inspired by a falling out I had with a friend.  I hope that one day we can get back together to being friends.

Here We Are

Here we are two
Broken souls
The time is now to
Break some ground

We have grown apart
This is my fault
In my darkest times
I see your smile

There is still time to
Break these heavy fences
Break them down and
You will see that we are

Meant to be good friends
Don't shut it down
Meant to be good friends
This time around

In my time of need
You were there
To listen my friend

This song is outside my comfort zone, it's a pop song which I in particular don't like, but I've always wanted to do something upbeat and radio-friendly.  Don't expect future songs to be like this one :)
